Developing through animal caring

We believe animal or pet care can have a powerful impact on children and youth’s well-being in the following aspects:

  1. Physical
Interacting with pets and animals has a calming and relaxing effect on most people. By visiting and regularly interacting with the animals here at Prestige Care Center, children and youth get more relaxed and healthier.
  2. Emotional
Caring for animals provides children opportunities to experience a range of healthy emotions. Since many of our children may have become hardened emotionally, compassion, and tender feelings of kindness can be awakened in them by pet care. Caring for another living thing also helps them emotionally as it lends meaning and purpose to children who may be struggling with feelings of despair, uselessness, or despondency. Children with attachment disorders have trouble connecting with others; such children may primarily have an easier time bonding with animals. This way helps them form relationships later with people.
  3. Behavioral
Our efforts to improve children’s behavior are enhanced through animal care. Our children must learn to be patient, slow-moving, gentle, quiet, and calm to interact with animals. By teaching them animal care, we teach them positive behaviors that are incompatible with their problematic behaviors. At the same time, as children demonstrate positive behaviors in animal care, these behaviors are reinforced by the animals that warm up to them and allow the children to interact with them.
  4. Social
Failure in socialization failure is nearly a universal experience for our children. Many are undersocialized, self-conscious, anti-social, withdrawn, and insensitive toward others. By forming a relationship with animals, children can learn the building blocks of socialization. These include being a dependable friend, being trustworthy, being sensitive to a friend’s needs, giving and receiving affection, and caring for someone else.
